Come Walk with Us at the Yachats Fish Fry Walk July 10, 2010

The Yachats Coastal Gems offer you Food, Fitness, Friends, and great views of the Pacific Ocean this July 10th in Yachats “The Gem of the Oregon Coast.” We are located on Hwy 101 26 miles north of Florence and 23 miles south of Newport. From Hwy 5 in Oregon, turn west on Hwy 126, Hwy 20 or Hwy 99 (shifting onto Hwy 18) to Hwy 101 and follow the signs to the coast. Yachats is north of the end of Hwy 126 in Florence, and south of the ends of both Hwy 20 (in Newport) and Hwy 18, which dead ends just north of Newport.

The Yachats Fish Fry Walk event has a 10km and a 5km option rated 2+ and 2 respectively and starts at the Yachats Commons between 4th and 5th Street.

You will saunter by the sea on the historic 804 trail watching the waves crash against the rocks and over the tide pools then wend your way through the Gerdemann Botanical Preserve seeing exotic and local flora not found elsewhere on the west coast of the US. During the walk you (like Alice) may even see one or more of our Yachats bunnies. After the walk feast on fish and other locally prepared  comestibles while enjoying the 30th Annual Yachats Music Festival.

If you are coming from afar, you may want to stay long enough to enjoy one or more of our other walks here on the mid-coast of Oregon. Yachats Coastal Gems began in 1991 as a Yachats club but now serves a majority of the Oregon Coast. We have two YRE walks in Newport, one walk in Waldport, two walks in Yachats, one at Cape Perpetua in Neptune State Park, and another in Honeyman State Park in Florence.  We’re not the biggest club nor have the most events, but we do know how to put on a party. All of our walks are listed with directions and descriptions at www.ava.org.

More information on Yachats, places to stay and things to do while you are here will be found at: www.goyachats.com for general information on Yachats, http://yachats.info/ymf/ for the music festival and here: http://gerdemanngarden.org for the Gerdemann Botanical Preserve.
