Witches and goblins and ghosts, oh my!  You are invited to join the Coastal Gems on October 29, 2011 for the biennial Halloween Walk in Yachats on the beautiful central Oregon coast .  Organizers have laid out a brand new course for this walk.   Walkers will meander through the coastal community of Yachats, and then head south to the Amanda statue that commemorates the inhumane forced march of coastal natives from the southern Oregon coast to a reservation some forty miles north and east of Yachats.  Walkers then return to Yachats and follow the ocean bluff 804 trail to see beautiful ocean views before returning to the start point.

Both the 11K and 5K courses are rated 3.  For those seeking a stiffer challenge, there is a 7.5K/4+ trail to the top of Cape Perpetua where the reward is a sweeping view of the Oregon coast, or perhaps ten feet into a fog bank.  There will be water and restrooms available along the course.  The walk will be held regardless of weather, and weather may influence a walker’s choice of trail.  Pets are welcome on our walks, but must be on a six-foot leash at all times.  Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their fur babies.  These walks are not appropriate for strollers or wheelchairs.

Yachats is located 25 miles south of Newport, and 25 miles north of Florence on the Oregon coast.  Highways 18, 20, 34, or 126 will get you into the neighborhood.  The start/finish point is the Lions Club, one block west of Highway 101 on 4th street in Yachats.

This special walk is always a favorite.  Some walkers choose to walk in costume.  There will be trick-or-treat bags, snacks, and door prizes at the end of the walk.  As always, fun, friends, and fitness are the order of the day.  At the end of the day a drawing will be held to determine the winner of a gorgeous 60” by 60” machine stitched quilt, pictured below.  Raffle tickets will be available for a dollar, and there will be special deals on tickets at the start/finish point.  You need not be present to win.
